As a society, we have come to a point where people too often treat one another as objects and opportunities, rather than as fellow human beings.  Respecting one another as individuals, or not doing so, seriously impacts the future, for all of us.

The servant-leader is servant first.  It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.  Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead.  The difference manifests itself in the care taken by the servant - first to make sure that other people's needs are being served.  The best test, and difficult to administer is:  Do those served grow as persons; do they, while being served, become healthier, wise, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants?  And what effect on the least privileged in society; will they benefit, or at least not be further deprived?

Dignity and Respect has to do with what you are ready, willing, and able to accept within yourself and in accepting to be able to give others. It is your personal power to make a difference by being true to the best within you and letting that truth shine through your words and actions.

The work exists for the person as much as the person exists for the work.

I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element.  It is my personal approach that creates the climate.  It is my daily mood that makes the weather.  I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous.  I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration; I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.  In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person humanized or de-humanized.  If we treat people as they are, we make them worse.  If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.

There's no believing in God...We either know God, or we don't.

Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.
